示威遊行

這個星期，世界貿易組織在香港舉行部長級會議，示威遊行就成了新聞界和傳媒不可缺少的報道標題。「示威遊行」就是英文 Demonstration.
它的英文解釋是： A demonstration is a march or gathering which people take part in to show their opposition to something or their support for something.例如：Mass demonstrations 是「群眾示威」，A demonstration against the government 是「反政府示威」，而To stage a demonstration against cuts in welfare spending就是「舉行反對削減福利支出的示威」。它的動詞是 Demonstrate,例如：「成千上萬的人正在酒店外面進行示威」是Thousands of people are demonstrating outside the hotel.
在外國，「工人上街遊行舉起橫額示威抗議生活費上升」就是 The workers marched through the streets with banners to demonstrate against the rising cost of living.
