貧富懸殊

自從政府諮詢公眾有關開徵銷售稅的意見後，貧富懸殊又成為社會的話題。There is wide gap between the rich and the poor就是「貧富懸殊」的意思。有團體認為Without a democratic political system and a sound welfare system, the introduction of a GST would be destined to widen the gap between the rich and the poor是「沒有民主的政製和健全的福利製度，推行銷售稅預定會令貧富更加懸殊」。

Gap本來是「差距」的意思，例如：當九西文娛區項目推倒重來時，官員說公眾要求與市場現實有明顯的差距There is a significant gap between public demands and market reality。有組織在投訴水牛田濕地被人傾倒泥頭時說There can be a very big gap between what the law says and what the government is willing to enforce，是「法律有所規定與政府是否願意執行可能差距很大」。
