保留 (Preserve)

對於政府堅持拆卸鐘樓，有議員在香港電台一個節目問特首：你看不到市民的明顯共識是要保留我們的集體回憶、歷史和文化嗎？“Can you not see the apparent consensus by the people to preserve our common memories, our history and our culture？”參與抗議的人不是反政府，他們只想喚起大眾對需要保留「香港過去」的意識。
Participants were not anti-government but wanted to arouse public awareness of the need to preserve “Hong Kong's past”.

Preserve 是「保留」的意思。它是動詞，其他例子：It would be very backward if the government tried to define whether to preserve an old building by its age alone 是「如果政府只是以樓齡來界定是否保留舊建築物，這是非常落後的」，They would organize more forums to raise awareness of the need to preserve the city's heritage 是「他們將會組織更多論壇，以提高對需要保留香港遺產的意識」。
